Bridal Trends by Elaine Rawlings

what’s gracing the rails for this year’s bride?

Weddings in Cornwall have never been so popular judging by the amount of lovely Cornish brides coming through the Truro boutique. The new season is brimming with gorgeous new collections from my bridal designers, seeing the most diverse collection of gowns I feel I have been able to choose from. From drop shoulders to delicate lace sleeves, bo-ho to ball gown, intricate 3D florals to classic clean mikado and crepe, there are so many fabrics and styles gracing the rails for this year’s bride.

Here are some of my favourites combining all that’s on-trend straight from the bridal runway

The ball gown is back!

The ball gown had fallen out of favour for a few seasons, but with a modern upgrade of gorgeous laces, soft billowing tulle skirts combined with the options of pink and nude undertones this style will make you feel like a princess perfect for a Cornish fairytale wedding. Think Pentillie or Caerhays Castle as your backdrop just perfect.

Two of my favourites princess ball gowns to hit the rails are Lowenna and Mia by Justin Alexander.

Lowenna by Justin Alexander

Lowenna has a beautiful illusion back, finished in a Venice lace with a cummerbund accentuating the waist to create an empire waistline. The pink champagne colour is also very on-trend!

Mia by Justin Alexander

Mia is again finished in the same Venice lace with Point d’esprit tulle and off the shoulder detail. Choose traditional Ivory or a nude undertone making the lace over layer really pop.

understated classic

If you want understated classic then crepe and mikado fabrics are for you. Two of my new favourites this season are Brooke and Penelope by Justin Alexander.

Brooke by Justin Alexander

Brooke is all about elegance, with a Sabrina neckline this fit and flare gown is sure to accentuate your figure. The illusion back is outlined by Venice lace that is also featured along the back hem. The gown is finished with chapel length train. Don’t forget girls it’s all about the back!

Penelopeby Justin Alexander

Penelope embodies the clean and classic trend. This V-neck stretch Mikado fit and flare gown with a detachable thin beaded belt is all you’ll want for your big day.

Bo-Ho is still hot

Bo-Ho is also still a firm favourite for 2020 and particularly popular in Cornwall For those wanting to steer away from traditional Ivory Lillian West’s new collection incorporates bold floral designs, tulle floaty skirts and the most gorgeous dark nude undertones appealing to a festival or laid back beach theme combine with a flower crown and you’ll have the ultimate bo-ho Cornish wedding. Two of my favourites are Emily and Fearne.

Emily by Lillian West

Emily epitomises soft romance, this sweetheart A-line gown with 3D flower petals and tulle skirt with a chapel length train is romantic and flirty and perfect for an outdoor ceremony.

Fearne by Lillian West

Fearne is a gorgeous slim A-line gown. Handmade floral cut-outs accent the thin beaded detail at the waist and the drop shoulder sleeves are bang on trend and detachable! Showing off a trim waist it also comes in the popular darker nude under layer.
