Katrina and Nick’s Coastal Wedding

Katrina and Nick had to get married by the sea

Katrina and Nick married at St Michael's Church, Rock, followed by a reception in a field next to the church.

Both the church and the field are located right on the water, with views across to Padstow. It was essential to this couple to get married by the sea, and the location had particular meaning to them, as Katrina's parents live in Padstow and Nick's mother grew up on the Rock side of the estuary, in St Tudy.

"The church is tiny and beautiful, with medieval features. It feels ancient and special, and we couldn't have imagined getting married anywhere else.

discovering Wild Tipi Weddings!

"We were originally planning to put a marquee on the site, but then we discovered Wild Tipi! An amazing company. They provided three giant tipis and created a magical space, dressed in fairy lights and foliage."

Katrina and Nick chose Jo, of Enchanted Brides, as their wedding photographer.

"I was smitten with Jo's work as soon as I saw it. It was moody, atmospheric, and evocative of "Wuthering Heights"! My dream photography. Jo was so lovely and friendly and created a beautiful record of our day."

They planned their day from London, meaning a lot of research from afar. Katrina used Instagram to source most of their suppliers, as well as blogs, blogs such as eeek!

The couple were overwhelmed by how incredible all their suppliers were. They made the best day of their lives even more special.

Wild Tipi worked tirelessly to create the perfect space for their wedding

Sam and Tim at Wild Tipi worked tirelessly to create the perfect space for their wedding reception, going massively above and beyond in giving up their time and energy over many months.

"Some of the kindest people I've ever met, and I'll be forever grateful to them."

Wedding Flowers

Jen at Twigs and Greens was wonderful, creating my dream bouquet. She used the King Protea, the national flower of South Africa, in both my bouquet and my bridesmaids' bouquets. My husband is South African, and I was delighted to surprise him with them.

In the right hands!

"Emma from Hair by Emma C - not only did she create beautiful hairstyles for my bridal party, she stayed with me to help me get into my dress and leave for the church on time. She was so kind, calm and thoughtful; I'm immensely grateful to her."

Katrina kept her accessories fairly simple. She wore a rose and white gold diamond pendant from South Africa, which her husband had used as inspiration when designing her engagement ring. She also wore rose gold and pearl drop earrings from Jules Bridal, and rose gold and pearl grips by Susan York Bridal in her hair, along with some fresh flowers.

Favourite parts of their day

"Exchanging our vows and getting out of the wedding car at the entrance to the tipis, hearing folk music drift across the field as all of our guests were greeted by trays of canapés and glasses of fizz. A truly celebratory moment!"

Top tips for brides

"Allow plenty of time to get ready! Our wedding was at 3 pm, and somehow we still ran late. Also, don't stress about the weather! I obsessed over the weather forecast in the days leading up to the wedding, and I really shouldn't have worried. On the day, it was overcast and a little drizzly, but we didn't notice, and the photos are spectacular. Relax and enjoy!"
